Dear Colleague,

After the last newsletter, there have been several important events. I give below a brief account of the same for your information.

The 2^nd National Seminar on WTO and Allied Issues was jointly organised by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow on February 2-3, 2002. Over 100 delegates participated in the same. A record number of 83 abstracts were received for the seminar. 73 papers were finally presented, covering various aspects, in the plenary and concurrent sessions. Full details of the Seminar are available on the Forum’s website (http://www.smfi.org/). I recommend you to please visit the same.

The 5^th Annual Convention of the Forum was held at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon during April 25-27, 2002. Looking at the format and contents of the events over the years, it was decided to change the name of this Annual event from Conference to Convention. The Convention was preceded by a 2- Day Workshop on Case Method. Over 100 delegates attended the two events, more details of which are available on the Forum’s website (http://www.smfi.org/).

Looking at the high quality of papers/case studies presented in the Seminar and the Convention, the Forum has started working towards the publications of Selected papers.

The Abstracts of the papers have been put on the website.

The following events of the Forum have been planned during the year 2003:-

1. Foundation Day Seminar on WTO: What People Must Know, organised by JIM, LU & IIML,

Feb. 3, 2003

2. 3rd National Seminar on WTO and Allied Issues (Focus on Tourism and Environment), organised by University of Goa, TERI and International Centre, Goa, Feb. 21-22, 2003

3. 2^nd Workshop on Case Method, XLRI, Jamshedpur, April 23-24, 2003.

4. 6^th Annual Convention at XLRI, Jamshedpur, April 25-27,2003.

5. Modular Development Programme for Strategic Management Teachers: Weeklong Foundation Programmes at IIM, Bangalore and IIM, Lucknow (Dates to be announced)

We invite you all to actively participate in each of the above events, which are expected to be academically highly enriching experiences, besides providing great opportunity for exchanging views with fellow academicians, practitioners and administrators, in comfortable and affordable environment conducive for the purpose.
